ServletRequest getInputStream

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
At the risk of being ridiculed :-) could someone give me a few examples of the types of operations where HttpServletRequest getInputStream would have to be used in a servlet.

The documentation says its for getting binary data, so I assume its for getting hold of files etc.

Would you ever need to use it on a bog standard HTML Form as opposed to getAttribute().

It would be useful if you were posting a serialized java object from an applet.

Google for a multipart reader example - as you guessed it applies to file uploads.
