Ok i know this question has been asked a million times. But I wanted to know what kind of book would you recommend for Servlets and Jsp's. I know more than the basics but not nearly enough to be called an expert.

I read the reviews in the bunkhouse, but most well rated books were reviewed in 2000/01. So are there any new and improved books out there. and if not, which of the old ones would you recommend.

Thanks

I highly recommend Head First Servlets & JSP by Basham, Sierra & Bates. Especially if you ever feel like going for the SCWCD exam. It is a very easy read with a lot of information.

I haven't read HFS, I usually recommend Marty Hall's Core Servlets and JSP

I'll second that recommendation. I've had that book on my desk for years and still refer to it. Get the followup "More Servlets and Java Server Pages" as well. This will keep you up to date with the later features.

The first edition is available for free download, in PDF form here:

The head first is really good if you want to pass a certification but if you want a book to learn what are JSP and servlet. I also recommend core and more servlet and JSP from Marty Hall.

You can also find really good books in the o'reilly collection...

Head First Servlets and JSP will be a great intro to you as are books from the Core series. Once you've read these though, you should totally check out the specifications. They're not hard reading, and really helps you learn just how the things should work and behave.
