There's been all this concern about how to explain the WTC, Pentagon attacks to children. Has anyone here faced any problems doing that? And what's been their response? I am wondering if children will really understand the tragedy here... afterall they see so much violence on TV, games etc. Do they understand that this is real? Do all those little kids waving the American flag know why they are doing it?
In the Netherlands all schools started the day after the attack with a session where the kids could discuss the attack. They sure knew the difference. Mostely they were very scared & worried that more innocent people would get killed.
My three-year-old was aware that something was going on. When we asked him if he knew what was heppening, he said that he knew some airplanes had crashed, but he didn't know why. We told him that there were some people that didn't like our country and they were mad at us. They told some other people that also didn't like us to crash the airplanes on purpose to try and hurt our country. We told him that it was bad because a lot of people that hadn't done anything wrong died in the accident. He told us that the bad men that made the planes crash should die. When we told him that they died in the crash, he was satisfied and the incident was closed for him. He hasn't mentioned it since. I guess he will support the death penalty, eh?
