Hi Just a basic doubt...

Can we have <servlet-mapping> without any <servlet-class> tag defined in the <servlet>... </servlet>.

NO.

<servlet-name> and <servlet-class> both are mandatory elements within <servlet>

check page 135 and 140 in servlet 1.4 specification

Page 140 shows that you can use either a servlet-class element OR a jsp-file element.
