During past few days I came across several americans who said "go back to afghanistan" to me (I was with an old indian female wearing "panjabi dress" which looks like muslim women's dress).
Now, I get to see a good example of so much bragged about American Freedom of Speech:
Sherif disclosing ISP of rancher without need.
BTW, before some Sherif tells that mine is Pac Bell.
I am out of this forum forever.
good bye ranchers.

As one old Russian movie said: "If I am not mistaken, you are alive? So what is your pretension?"

Well, I still have no idea why Tony brought Shama's ISP into the conversation, but now that we've seen the side effect of this act, I have no complaints. It's not as though an ISP is some deep dark personal secret - who cares? I only questioned it to try to understand what point Tony was making - not because it seemed important in and of itself. (Quite the opposite, actually...)

I should remind the sheriffs that MD allows for anonymous posting. If we are going to reveal IP addresses and ISPs then we make that a lie. I would also suggest that no matter how unimportant you think it is, no personal information including the ISP should be revealed. This site has a privacy statement. Is that statement a lie? Is everything open game for the sheriffs and bartenders?

Thomas, as Jim said, WHO CARES what your ISP is, really?
I suceeded in making it important for a second (just for show) and Jim quickly realized that and set it aside where it belongs.

Technical note, Thomas, JavaRanch, like any other self-respecting site, logs incoming requests' IP address. The ISP info is gathered from FREELY AVAILABLE sites like the one I use:
http://www.arin.net/whois/arinwhois.html

For eaxmple, if I enter my current "IP Logged" number which is 208.61.122.114, you would get:

andy,
ask ur grand father where u came from before making these stupid comments about others asking them to leave.
and as far as the Ram Ram goes i totally agree with him. there should be no reason in this world to reveal the IP address or the ISP. My request to the sheriff... please we would like to have our infomation private. Just because it is freely available does'nt mean it should be revealed.

Well that would be one way to inhibit free speech -- not allowing people to repeat widely available information. Welcome to the US way of thinking, amigo.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about: Afghani credit fraud. Then what, a flaming bag of bin Laden poop on my porch?

Ram: Freedom of speech includes the freedom to be misunderstood.
Pity to see you go, there'll be fewer lively discussions 'round these parts and the conversation will be poorer for it.
Dave.

I'm not sure if you are using this statement to affirm my point or rebut it. As I read it, nothing in this policy prevents any participant declaring to any other participant the ISP another participant is using.

What are you talking about? Ram Ram said he was leaving, i said goodbye. A bit defensive are we?
And what is the big deal in posting an ip? ANyone get get anyone's ip here if they really want to. It doesnt matter what the site's privacy policy says, there is no guarantee of anonimity(sp) on the net. Get used to it.

Michael,
Thomas has already explained what "prevents" "any" participant from declaring it... First "any" needs to know it to anounce it.
At least think about your reputation before making such an illogical argument after all you are posting with your name I assume.
Grow Up.

Thats the best quote ever. An idiot like RAM telling someone to think about their reputation when posting with their real name. First off, he HAS a reputation. And im sure your jealous of that seeing as how you are nothing more than a whining sniveling baby who uses a name like ram. And of all people telling someone to grow up. HA, now thats GOOD!
Its obvious that when you have nothing to come back with you resort to posts like ram's.
