Personally I feel that any good programmer has to be an evening person. Hate this morning folk They are boring, intrusive and suffer from lack of intelligence. No wonder, all good ideas come to us after 11 p.m. - they just miss them totally!

Evening, definitely.
I had a school report from when I was 9 that said "does not wake up before 11am"
While studying for my degree, if I studied during the day I did nothing, but I could study straight through from 10pm to 6am without a break...

Assuming there is only one time zone, isn't that an American failing? (tongue in cheek, people, tongue in cheek)

What makes you think so Map? Not that i'm a morning person, I too am an evening guy. But the reason i prefer to work in the eve's is that there isn't much of disturbance. But Ideas. hmmm i have no time bar in that area. Not much arise from my Cerebrum. On the same lines most of the Computer geeks(not just good Programmers) are loners with no bar in time.

FINALLY! It's 5am now and my schedule has been this wack since...high school. I am now a senior in college and I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT do anything productive in the daytime. I just sleep, and I wake up at night. I'm trying very hard to switch it around so I can at least be present during the exams in my classes.
But it's good to verify that there's nothing mentally wrong with me. Or...not extremely wrong anyway

Morning?? nope. Evening?? nope. More like a middle of the night kind of person. If it was possible I'd be up all night and sleep all day. It is so much quieter at night! Unfortunatley my day job doesn't give me that luxury

Its those darn kids!!! Who ever heard of having to be at the bus stop at the ungodly hour of 6:40 AM. And I have to drive them there My boss allows me flex time, and my kids mess it up. My life is forever out of whack.

Sometimes I long for the days when I was still young and reckless and employed as a waitress. I used to start work at 15.00 and finish around 00.00, which suited me perfectly. I don't know who came up with the idea that offices should open around eight but he or she deserves to be punished severely.
But who knows, with the way the Dutch IT-market is behaving, I may soon be a waitress again .

I dunno... My intuition told me that real programmers should be evening persons... And see - I was right! Everybody said so, except Michael Ernest. Not only did he state that a morning can be good , but, worse, did it at 5.58 a.m. But then, he already transcended programmer's state of mind, so we can safely ignore this artefact.

Anybody who has kids knows there is no such thing as morning/night persons after you have kids. It's more like... sleep while you can, whenever you can, for as long as you can. But it doesn't matter much, it is inevitable that you will be woken before you want to get up!

Um... I guess we cannot safely ignore this a.. I mean this precedent. Michael, how about "statistically insignificant result"? Would it be better?

By the way, if you do not know whether you are a morning or evening person, here is a test.
2 am is
a) early morning
b) late evening

Hey, Jo, you think we both are boring, intrusive and stupid???

Neither. Depends what I'm doing.
I'm actually neither a morning or evening person. It suites my character. I'm either one depending on what needs to be done.
Map I would never call you boring or stupid. Got my doubts about instrusive though

No wonder, all good ideas come to us after 11 p.m.

When our brains are so worn out from a days work anything sounds good
My brain works at optimum for 1 nanosecond at 10:26 am EST. The rest of the day (and evening), it's out to lunch

I am a morning person. And Map, 2am is clearly early morning for me. When at school, there have been occasions where I've woken up at 2.30 or more often 3am to finish assignments
I love early mornings - the whole world is still quiet and it is peaceful everywhere. The air is so fresh and nippy. And when in Bangalore, the flowers in our garden's jasmine plant had a divine aroma that wafted in the air... it was so blissful!
Boring, intrusive and stupid? Nah. We are actually healthy, wealthy and wise You must simply be envious of us
