web.xml namespace info how much imp ?

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi Guys,
I found out that the following :

xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd"
version="2.4"

is a must to write in web.xml (doesnt provide any clue otherwise &
does'nt run my servlets).
Shouldnt the container(in my case tomcat)raise objections on using a descriptor w/o specific namespace ?

I'm not an expert in this department but I believe that the namespace informs the container as to which version of the servlet spec you're implementing.
I know, for example, that an app with a 2.3 namespace will run under the latest version of Tomcat but EL expressions will be ignored (printed verbatim).

By the way...
I have no idea what this subject line means:

That reads - how much important.
btw your simple servlet examples are very useful.

No. It reads "how much imp"

Please take the time to completely spell out words. It is in your own interest to avoid the kind of confusion that you have caused.
