hi, it's too bad, but I think this is true... I think they are able to jump much further.. Why does Macromedia Flash seemingly installs itself automatically on PC's all over the world and the JRE not ? Why is the whole world excited about .NET *before* it even reaches its final state and are the Java technologies (some are real old allready) unknown or seemingly uninteresting to many ?
They should create a better, more consumer oriented site! And at the same time preserve the style they have now for developers... Dave [This message has been edited by Dave Van Even (edited October 17, 2001).]
I think once they start doing that, JAVA development will start costing money, where as right now, everything is open source. Once you start spending money, you have to start making money to replace it. Would you like to pay for the JDK??
Historically, Sun is not in the habit of announcing products for release when they're only in the initiative stage. Bear in mind, the implicit message behind ANY M$ annoucement is" "you'll only be able to get it from us." Sun actually has to compete, product-for-product. Makes a big difference in what constitutes an effective strategy.
