Hello guys,
I am doing a research paper on India and I chose to explore the lifestyle of Indians that are currently living overseas, specifically the US.
I'm interested in compiling statistics on age, sex, reason for coming, education background, caste, family history, beliefs and so forth. Further, I wish to discuss with you about how you cope with living in America and how you deal with each other, being memebers of different castes and dating other races and anything else you would like to share.
I know I'm asking a lot, but in return, I'll post the results of my findings and email you a copy of the paper. Hopefully, you'll find some insight in the results, as I'm sure I will.
I have already started my research a little bit interviewing international students from India at my campus, but they are reserved and embarrassed, so I'm hoping the anonymity of the Internet can help divulge more personal feelings.
You can either email me: chris1215@hotmail.com
Or you can post your background here for others to share. Most importantly, tell me about your life at home, how it's different, and how your relations with other Indians change in the US.
Ok, thanks a lot. I'm not sure if this will work but hopefully some people will respond.

I'm an indian living in US.. My 2 cents..!
Reason: To earn Money and improve my standard back in india.
Life in US: Interesting and it is really a wonderful experience.
What i'm missing: A lot.. my family and friends, my native place.. being alone is really sucks sometimes..
About USA: People here are really great and friendly. Their public behaviour is awesome. Americans are honest and their way and attitude of living, is something indians must learn.
View about India: Now i started worrying abt my country.. why we can't make india as better as US.. what we r missing..? where we r wrong..?

It will be very helpful if you can post a Q/A template of the information you need.

Who are those in this 'we'?
You can do that(worrying) here in India too, and suggest some ideas through various ways for constructive work.

What's the deal with all these old threads popping up again? Maybe it just takes some people that long to come up with a response?

There is nothing wrong in learning something from anybody. There are definitely many things that we should learn from America in general. Of course, that does not mean we should completly change ourselves and be like Americans 100%. There is no one to one mapping or comparison as such. In fact, we do this all the time. You go to somebody's house and you find somethting interesting (say big screen tv), you may like it very much and may want to buy one for yourself too. On the other hand, you may see some really whacky stuff which you wouldn't want to even think of having. This is a crude example, but that's what ultimately it is.
I learnt professionalism from Americans. I like the way they deal with people in business as well as in general.
Here, people do justice to their jobs. Unlike in India, I have not seen any public office worker wasting his/her time chewing paan (tobbaco) while people are queuing up. That is another thing I would like happening in India.

I have given a lot of thought to the above discussion, infact many a times and every time i come to the same answer:
The problem or difference between not just India and U.S ,it's a Global problem which any country is/could (around the world) face.Don't take me wrong ,but in my personel thinking every reason for which India is behind is Population.Anything and Everything is related to over excess "population".
"India was -- A GOLDEN BIRD".

There is a deadlock with population & education.
I am agree with PD. There is nothing wrong in learning something from anyone.
I read it(it was speech given Infosys CEO), that one thing we should learn from US is to take care of society. We have famiily values only. We dont care abt society.
AW long way to go.
But still Mera Bahrat Mahan (My India is Great.)
Sometimes I wonder why we proud ourself so much to the extend of being arrogant?
The truth is "India WAS-- a golden bird".
I hate this line. When we will come in present.
AW Politicians are becoming better and better like Chandrababu Naidu, Krishna etc. I wish to see such politicians more in near future.

First of all i think enough time has passed from the initial post till now that some (if any) results would have come out of the above mentioned Researchand the original author should be posting the results of his survey .. over a year .. surely that should be enough

I read it(it was speech given Infosys CEO), that one thing we should learn from US is to take care of society. We have famiily values only. We dont care abt society

Good Point Ravish.. I rememberd another thing.. Indians like everybody else are pretty good about personal hygiene but they are not so great when it comes to community hygiene like the rest of the West..
About 5-6 years ago i was in Bombay for some meeting and happened to watch a marathi play (a little local program) on DD that night while in hotel.. and the essense of this program is that of a good natured old Grandma teaching her 5 year old grand daughter about what not to do in terms of food habits etc while cleaning her 4th floor apartment. While teaching the kid all health hygiene habits she keeps picking stuff from the apartment and putting it in a dustbin and finally emptying the dustbin out of her balcony into the street...
For what ever reason i remember this even after a long time

ResultDude,
Whether my lifestyle is entirely different or not from the picture you have painted in your earlier mail is immaterial here. You have ignored several other sections of the Indian diaspora, for example:- Thousands on student visa, many on business visas, many many more who are permanent residents and all these people have a totally different lifestyle. I am not gonna go into great details here.

Hi Christopher,
Looking at the answers, I think you will be better off doing your research somewhere else.
Rest
----------------
Christopher is doing some research. In research there is no right or wrong answer. So if somebody details his/her lifestyle, then others should not try to justify it or try to differ from it. That's the whole point of research.
Also Indians who are in India can't judge on the lifestyle of people here. Same is true the other way.

Dude, you didn't get the point.
you contribute by answering the questions that are part of the survey. You don't contribute by "trying to Shut Up" or by posting messages that are not related to the survey.
You being here posting irrelevant messages is like a monkey with a mirror - CLUELESS
good day!

Monkey...Mirror....Duh!!
That's a good one Sir!.
On the other hand, "Seems like u have spent a lot/all of time with them".
Seriously speaking on the topic, well i have to say both of u r correct. The only difference is both of u r referring to different percentage of indian population which also to some extent overlap each other.
