form authentication completion

if FORM is the type of authentication, in j2ee,

when the authentication is done, e.g. logon is successful,

is the control passed back automatically to the originally requested jsp/servlet? or the logon form must specifically/hardcodedly dispatch to the original jsp, thereby, the logon form must know specifically where to proceed after authentication?

First one you said. You don't need to handle the logic from the login form.

Cheers.

You can externalize the location where you want to go after the login is successful. You can have this as a string in a property file or any other file that your application uses for external configuring properties. And read this value from the proprty before forwarding in case of successful login.
