Is anyone running XP on their machine yet? Are you satisfied with it?....I'm thinking of getting it, or is that just flushing my money down the toilet?

Ive had it for a few months. I like it alot. Makes alot of things easier than any previous winblows version. Also its more stable than win9x, but not as stable as 2k.
Id give it a go if i were u, if u like windows.

Unless you think you may run into Software compatablity issues (mainly games), then I suggest going to/Sticking to Windows 2000. XP has way too much Hand Holding for me, and I despise the new GUI Design.
But that is me.

Tintin, there is alot more to XP than just a few patches. Use 98 for a week then use xp for a week and tell me its the same. Alot of things are WAY easier to use/accomplish, but the trade off is that there is alot of "Hand holding" going on like Gregg said.
But yes i agree that if you have 2k and dont use alot of programs that need broad compatibility then you can stick with 2k. Xp is just 2k with a 9x compatibility mode.

Tintin Herge: now, that can't be your real name! Ironic that after reading several "ranch hands" nagging people about using their REAL names, that another ranch hand comes up with his own fanciful name.
By the way, I too am a Tintin fan.

i have 2000 and 98 because 2000 is not compatible with a lot of my games and cdrw drive...
let me get this straight... is XP backward compatible with soft/hardware that 2000 is not? if so, it sounds like what i need. if not, i do not want to deal with it.
the reason i am asking is that i am about to upgrade my cpu/mobo. so, would you suggest just going with XP this time around? i am debating it because i am tired of having to switch OS's when i want to do different operations.

Yes, XP is BACKWARDS compatable, although that is bad terminalogy. But anyway, Microsucks has Compatability Patches that you can download that may fix some of your problems (Mainly Games). Or you could go with XP and cross your fingers. Nothing is guaranteed. One thing is for sure: Anytime you trade one M$ product for another M$ product, you are just trading one set of problems for another. Just depends on which problems you can live with.

yea, i hate that i am a slave to M$! i am slowly learning linux, but until i am comfortable enough to give-up windows, i guess i have to submit to Master Bill.
i tried some of the patches for my games and cdrw drive with win2000, but they did not work very well. of course, that was just after win2000 came out, so maybe they have better patches now?
thanks,
Greg (with 1 "g")
