Hi guys,
I need your help:
I'm in a band here in the UK called 'Usual Guy,' we've just been told that our name is awful and needs changing - the thing is, we have no ideas! Could you guys give me some suggestions for new band names please? Any ideas would be more than welcome
You can hear what kind of stuff we play by visiting our MP3 site here: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/260/usual_guy.html
Thank you!

If you have no ideas for names, how do you come up with ideas for songs

I like some of these in an ironic way we were also thinking of Arm BAND or The Contra BAND. I'm not 100% sure about the Java Joes, no one in the band is called Joe and I don't know anyone called Joe either!! Thanks for the effort though
It's funny that we have no problems with writing songs, just with coming up with a name.... I s'pose I spend more time on the songs than the name!
Keep em coming though....

The name of your band should be something that the band comes up with. It should have special meaning to all the bands members. Who told you the name you have now is bad? If it wasn't a record producer, don't listen to them. No matter what name you come up with, it's going to get bashed by someone somewhere.
Talk to your band mates. Find the meaning of your band. Why did you create a band? What brought you guys/girls together? Do you have a purpose or message you are trying to convey? Are you just having fun? Is this something you are striving to do for a living?
These are some of the things that will help you find the perfect name for your band. (perfect, at least in your hearts)

In that case "Show me the money" would be appropriate

It would seem more appropriate I s'pose! Although there are actually four of us! That picture was the only one I had to hand when I was uploading to the site!
...the other two are ugly anyway

If they read what you are saying about them then you probably might have to name it "two guys" anyway .

But the two in the photo are ugly...

I think it's all a big scam. There's not really 4 of you, just the two in the picture, and your some obscure folk act.

"Band 9/11"

No, too easy to confuse with 7/11. People will be expecting slushies with their music.

If I were you, Damian, I would just keep my ears peeled for ordinary words/phrases that sound like they could be a band name. I dunno, like:
"Ballistics Confirms"
"Uneven Wear"
"City Water"
You must let us know what you decide!

If you type "band name generator" into google, you will get a list of more sites than you know what to do with that have random band name generators on them. Have fun.
Some favorites a couple came up with

  • the summer the robots cried
  • 15 years of searching
  • Pearl Harbour
  • Tell No Lies

"Relish your hotdog"
...but you might have to put a warning label on the cover:
For children under the age of 12, eating more than one hotdog per month can increase your chances of getting childhood leukemia.
mmmmmmm... hotdogs.
what about "hotdog ingredients" or the equivalent "mashed up cow/pig leftovers including the hooves and other such goodies"
I can't believe I'm still craving hot dogs, knowing the above

My suggestions:
The Birmingham Quartet
Boys of Birmingham
Birmingham Boyz
The Wrath of Uranus (don't ask me why )
Untieus (pronounced Untie Us)
L.C.S. (Lickety Chop Suey)
Bannistro
Rowesty
Overlit
Underlit
Castafirs
Well, I can keep generating such names Tell me if you liked any of these. These have not been taken as .com domain names, so better act fast, if you like something
You can probably get some inspiration from Tony Alicea: He's been one of the pioneers in Puerto Rican rock. Read about some of his bands here.

How about "The Haggis" or "Band Haggis"? Especially if you also do little bit of scottish/celtic country music.
- for those who dont know( anybody? ), Haggis is not only a dish, but as brits loves to repeat, it is a real, living animal.
