I was looking on ebay for an old sun workstation so that i can install solaris on it and play around with it a bit. But i have no clue as to what is what when it comes to sun. Sun Ultra Sparc 1 Sun Sparc 10 Sun Ultra 5 Anyone know anything about either of these. They seem to be the most prevelant on ebay so i guess they are run of the mill.
Andy I'm just getting into them myself and looking for one too. I know the Sun Blade 100 is now on sale for just under $1000.00 - thats the one I'm looking at. The other option is to get the Solaris 8 OS for Intel systems (Carl told me about it), but that may not work because the only old intel machine I might be able to get is an old Gateway that I dont think will support it - at least not according to Suns site. So, I'm seriously looking a the Sun Blade 100. Here it is And here is the Sun ultraSparc page Dave
I have Solaris 8 installed in one of my home computers. Its an intel based pc, and it runs great. But i wanted to get a small sun box so that i could play with solaris on a sparc platform. I will check out those links. Thanks.
Solris 8 is supported over a wide range of chips from Pentium to Pentium4 and AMD K5 throuth the newest AMD Duron, the Cyrix 586 through the Cyrix MII. I think the Gateway configuration would work unless it's a 486 or before. http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/hcl/8/701/p2.html#TOC-1 [This message has been edited by Carl Trusiak (edited November 08, 2001).]
