Hi All,

I have a slight problem..i need to create a servlet which accepts a XML request (there are 5-10 different ones) and depending on the xml header it should perform some function then return a XML response with a status or error comment. How should i go about this? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Nick

I suggest the following initial steps - OUTSIDE the servlet environment:

1. get up to speed on Java's XML parsing tools by working through a tutorial (search for "Sun Java XML tutorial" on google).

2. using sample files in the XML format your requests will be in, write and test code that can extract specific items

3. only work in the servlet environment after you are comfortable with Java XML tools.
--------
Note that there are many schemes for making XML formatted requests - XML-RPC, SOAP, etc. - you should first find out if the requests you are going to see are formatted according to a specific scheme for which a specific toolkit may be available.

We have had similar discussions recently in the XML forum, look around.
