Hi there...

As it is becoming increasingly popular, i am moving from the standalone arena toward web application and I need some help in my first application using Servlets.
I am trying to implemented a secure SSL login for a website, I wonder how can I get servlets make use of SSL. I thought of using https in the form action url. I also observed that the deployment descriptor can by used to define the authentication method, but that also applies to form based application. Thanks in advance

HTTPS is used when you need a secure HTTP connection to send secure data. This is a feature supported by your web server.

Servlet API does not change for HTTP or HTTPS request. So there will be no difference as far as your servlet coding goes.

The <auth-constraint> tag you mentioned is to define security restrictions, primarily for authorisation.

Welcome to JavaRanch.

Note that there is usually some additional setup to do if you want to use SSL. The relevant documentation for Tomcat is her.
