David is trying to get you to think about the question: What does CONNECT do? (If you don't know that, have a look at the HTTP specification.) Given that, what would the doConnect method do?

If you are interested in creating a HTTP connection you should be looking at the classes in the java.net package - part of the java standard library since the beginning. The servlet API is a newcomer by comparison.

For example, examine the methods of the URLConnection and HttpURLConnection classes.
