I got this email at my hotmail account :

We are improving our service by merging pools of user names from
different countries into a global community. You'll get access to
more people around the world through such services as Yahoo!
Messenger and Chat.
Unfortunately, you will need to choose a new Yahoo! ID, as there
is another person currently using maky. Your personal
preferences will be saved and transferred to the new Yahoo! ID you
select below. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause
you.
Your password will not change. This will only affect the name
that you use to log in, and the URLs used for data that you may be
storing on Yahoo! in services such as Photos or GeoCities. (See
"Quick Facts" below).
You will be asked to change your Yahoo! ID the next time you sign
in. Or, you can go to
http://edit.yahoo.com/config/rename_user
and change your Yahoo! ID now.

Q: Has my password changed?
A: No. Your password remains the same.
Q: Do I need to contact my friends to let them know my new Yahoo! ID?
A: No. Your Yahoo! ID will update automatically on your friends'
Messenger and Address Book listings. Your Messenger "friends"
will receive a message from Yahoo! telling them of your ID
change.
Q: What will happen to the ratings I've earned in properties like
Yahoo! Auctions or Games?
A: Don't worry. Your ratings will automatically transfer to your

to let your friends know your new Geocities and Photos URLs.
Q: What will happen to my general settings, such as those for the
My Yahoo! page?
A: Your personalized Yahoo! settings will be transferred to your
new ID. You will not lose any of your settings or customization
options.

No.. It came to me from "Yahoo! Account Services" <[email protected]> with headers Received: from [216.136.173.189] by hotmail.com
A reverse IP lookup on that ip gives me
216.136.173.189 -> mailer15.bulk.sc5.yahoo.com
So it looks its sent using the yahoo! web based email interface. In that case, the FROM header couldn't have a yahoo-inc.com or am I wrong to think that ?
Ah well.. as long as I ignore it it cant hurt !!
And today I got another message from Yahoo! Member Services <[email protected]> Received: from [216.115.102.151] by hotmail.com saying

this is not *typical* junk mail.. This appears some sort of hoax or hack to make you click somewhere to give something away. Specially since the first message was followed by another email giving me a new yahoo id.

"nslookup" in windows (Windows 2000 atleast).
If you are using Windows, there is a great utility for network query.
