I open a browser to access a j2ee application which uses session to store information. if I go from the 1st page to 2nd to 3rd,etc (let's say that's my trip one). Then on the same browser I revisit page 1, at this moment, is the session server created for me during my "trip 1" still valid and available ??

In order to start a new session without being affected by my "trip 1" visit, shall I open a new IE browser, or shall I use "ctrl+N" to open a browser ? which way can guarantee a new session ?

Sessions time out after being idle for a specified number of minutes (30 is the usually the default). Each time you hit the application, the timer is reset.

If you want to guarantee a new sesssion, close your browser and open a new one.

Note: MSIE behaves differently in the respect, depending on how you open a second instance. If you use Ctrl + n or use File -> New from the browser's menu, the second copy will share session information with the first.

If, on the other hand, you start a new instance by clicking the Windows Start button and then clicking on the MSIE launcher, the second instance will have it's own cookie space and maintain a separate session.
