Could be correct if the result of rounding.
2.4 + 2.4 = 4.8
rounded to
2 + 2 = 5 for display purposes.

This smells like an ambush to me. I wouldn't presume to imagine that I know what particular meaning you have in mind for those symbols - except to note that it's evidently not the conventional mathematical meaning, nor the Java programming meaning.

Well, it's a nice thought then. Thank you. Unfortunately pointing out another's error isn't particularly rewarding when the error is already obvious to everyone who sees it, including the author. What's the point, after all?

Or 2x + 2x = 5x in a non-threadsafe scope where x = 1.25 when the left hand side gets evaluated and x = 1 when the right hand side gets evaluated.
