What is the most effective way to add https fuctionality to an application which has only http functionality currently?

Assuming this is a Servlet application, and assuming you use Tomcat, this should get you going in the right direction.

SSL isn't implemented at the application level.
It's done at the container (server) level.
See your container's documentation for the exact details.

Is ain't there any way absolutely that it can be implemented at the application level?(as in,by means of implementing it through code)
