i would try searching at http://www.google.com
for "alpha waves"
about all i can tell you is when i was in college they had this alpha wave machine and i could go into this room and relax using it. it gave you audio feeback to let you know when your brain waves were slowing down. beta is waking active state. alpha is a relaxed stae in between awake and asleep. i believe gamma is when you dream and delta is when you are sleeping too deeply to dream. some say that you can do without sleep if you meditate(alpha state)

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
