abstract pathname in files

Can someone please tell me what the abstract pathname is and where it is located and how to ammend it. I would like to create both directories and files for my program and if someone knows of an easy way, that would be great.

Hey Diesel,
I dont think I understand what you mean by abstract path-name. Is their way another way you can simplify this? I am sure I could have the answer, but I want to make sure I stay within context.
