Right folks, Im off next month to Hawaii for three weeks If anyone out there lives there or has visited there, could you make recommendations of things to do and places to see. Im going over for a wedding there. Being a good Scotsman I need to hire a kilt when Im over there, so if anyone knows a good kilt hire place give me a shout. Cheers, Mark
i have been to hawaii several times (while in the US Navy). which island is the wedding on? i am assuming either Maui or Oahu. Oahu is where Honolulu and Waikiki are located, and therefore the most populated and crowded by tourists. Maui is absolutely beautiful, and also my favorite of the islands... they have a "sunrise bike-ride" from the top of the mountain. you get up around 3 or 4 a.m. and the bus takes you to the top. then, you bike down about half way as the sun rises, stop for breakfast, and then bike the rest of the way to the bottom. absolutely beautiful! of course, you need to attend a luau while you are there. the Polynesian Cultural Center is located on the northern part of Oahu, and they have a ticket package that includes the shows during the day and the luau at night (supposed to be the best on the islands). the shows range from traditional tribal dancing, coconut tree climing, fire dancing to authentic hula dancing. you can make an entire day of it and it is well worth the price of admission. i have to get back to work, but i will post more later.
Hi Greg, Were spending the first week (and the wedding), on Maui. Then I think were going to try and go to another couple of islands before ending up on Honolulu on our last night. The bike ride sounds pretty cool! Have you got any contact info on the company that runs those bike rides? Cheers, Mark
bike tours this is the first link i found... i cannot remember the name of the company we used, but i think "Haleakala Bike Co." is pretty good. a lot of the companies charge more because they supply breakfast... others charge less, but do not supply rain gear. something to keep in mind... you are starting at 6,000ft and descending to sea level... it is going to be COLD when you start, and possibly wet due to the morning air. however, when you get to the last 2,000 feet of descent, it will start to get warm, and you will want to go for a swim when you are finished. make sure the company you choose supplies rain gear! or, if you have your own rain gear, make sure to take it along!
For Maui: the only island I have been on. Yes Greg is right. There are many companies that offer the bike rides. You don't need to worry about making reservations for that stuff right now. Because you can always do it when you ge there. There are tons of little "Ticket" shops for these things. There is always the Road to Hana, which you have to do, it is a beautiful drive. However, you will find out why you have to do this drive, and why you will only ever do the drive once in your entire lifetime. Then try a three hour snorkelling trip. I like the short 3 hour trips because I can get seasick, and it was just the right amount of time for me. If you golf, you are in luck. Anywhere is the best. And then you have the beautiful beaches. Have fun. Mark
I forgot, quick funny story. When we went snorkelling, I had bought one of those disposable cameras with a cover that you can use for under water photos. I went through the 36 exposures in like 5 minutes, the fish are swimming all over, and I copuldn't stop snapping, until the film was done. Mark
Hi All, Just returned from Hawaii. Its Paradise! Thanks to everyone for the advice; I did all of the above (snorkled, bike ride, road to Hana) and it was worth every penny. Id love to go back there someday Mark

If you send is by car it's a shipment, but if by ship it's cargo. This tiny ad told me:
