System.getCurrentTimeMillis() returns a long integer value that can be used for this purpose. Save the results of the call to this method when the employee logs in in the timeIn variable, and save the results of the call to the method in the timeOut variable when the employee logs out... subtract timeIn from timeOut and you have the total number of milliseconds worked... Then you can calculate more useful time units from this ( unless your employees get paid by the millisecond... )
