The two choices in Java are Swing or AWT, and I don't think that AWT has the components to do this. I know that Swing does.

Thx Bodie!
So, how should I start. Here's what I want to do:
* multiple windows that each represents ascii files and can be edited
* output window for tool output
* "properties window"
* toolbar
Actually I am portin one of my hobby projects into Java.
