"Australia handed South Africa their heaviest defeat in Test history at the Wanderers on Sunday, taking just 6.3 overs in the last session on the third day before winning the first Castle Lager/MTN Test match by an innings and 360 runs
South Africa’s previous heaviest defeat was the innings and 259-run loss to Australia in Port Elizabeth in 1949/50.
It was also the second heaviest Test defeat of all time, bettered only by England’s innings and 579 run win over Australia at the Oval in 1938."
What can I say but congratulations to all the visitors from Oz. You guys are simply the best at the moment.

Is Gilchrist the best player in the Australian team? He is now 30 years old. He made his test debut in 1999 and immediately turned into a match winner. Was he hiding? Its difficult to understand why the selectors took so long to blood him in the team. If he was an Indian, he would've made his debut at 20 and if he was a Pakistani, he would've been in the team by 18.
cheers

Aussies are simply the best! Steve Waugh shouldn't have been dumped from the ODI team...though I'm sure he'll make a comeback.

The reason for that is because Ian Healy was around for such a long time, and the Australian selectors were reluctant to make a change. Sort of like what's happening today with Warne/Stuart MacGill.

Correction. If he were a pakistani, he probably would've made the team by the time he was 14

Added to that was the fact that Gilchrist was No 2 keeper where ever he came from in eastern Oz, then he came to West Oz to replace Zoehrer (the previous Oz keeper)
Since he was a wicketkeeper, he couldn't even get a game at state level!

I think South-Africa should accept defeat. Drop most of the regular players and field as many promising players as possible. It time to start building again. Like England has done a few years ago. It will me painful but heck at least you will have an excuse why you get thrashed.
