resuming download using java.net.URL?

can i download a remote file using java.net.URL starting at a specified offset ? it's just like resuming download. i tried out the skip(long) from InputStream, but it took as much time as downloading the whole file.
please help =)

skip() doesn't help because in order to skip data in a stream you have to read it in order to skip it. :-)
There is no built-in mechanism to download part of a file with standard network protocols. You can build the service yourself several ways, or find a tool/protocol on the network that helps you do this, but there's nothing built into J2SE that directly supports it.
