Data compression algorithms?

Anyone have (or know of any links to) implementations of various data compression algorithms suitable for all file types (byte data read off disk)?

Thanks for the reply! I've already implemented the java ZIP classes (sorry I forgot to mention that), and am looking to expand to other methods.
