Is it possible to modify windows registry variable from java program???

I don't think that it's typically allowed. It's my understanding that the Preferences API introduced with Java 1.4 does use the registry to set user preferences, but that's not something that should concern the Java programmer (the Java programmer just cares that the preferences are remembered and that she/he has a way to retrieve them when appropriate).
Why are you wanting to edit registry settings?
