I am new to Java (one college class in Java and two months studying JSP), and I am wondering how do you make a jar file executable. I thought Java files could only be run with the jvm. Am I wrong? The reason I am asking is because when I downloaded JEdit, it was an executable jar file. How did they do that?
Second question. I have finished working with "Begenning JSP Web Development" by Wrox, and I am looking for a good follow up book which builds on what I have learned. In the Wrox book I have learned to set up Tomcat, MySql, and write small servlets which passes data from the database to the jsp page. Remember, I am a newbie and am looking to build on what I know. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good second book? BTW, I know nothing about EJB's or how they work. I wish I could find as easy a book about EJB's as I have with JSP.
Lastly, I want to say hello to everyone! This is my first post here, and I hope to learn lots from your expertiese.

Hey, don't take this badly, but you obviously did not even try the search button. We don't need 50,000 different versions of the same question. The jar executable question has been asked MANY times. Please search the forum before posting or google it.
A quick search turned up:

(Here's how to even do it programmatically!):

Thanks Robert,
I did not even think to use google to search the site. Anyways, it anwsered my question about executable jars. What about the book question. Can you reccomend a good book to introduce Beans and EJB's? I finished JSP Web Development and understand tomcat/jsp/servlets. What book would be a good next step for an amatuer?

Ersin Eser sure liked Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans (2nd Edition) by Ed Roman.
If you're looking for more basic information on creating an executable JAR, you might want to take a look at The Creating an Executable JAR File Thread.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
