The title of the book is interesting. Personally I feel that programming is an art. There are lots of places where you can show your individuality, efficiency and beauty. Does this book talk about how to program in java the artistic way, I mean how well it can be written rather than starting with hello world programmes? Does it mean it is an advanced book?

Thanks,
Vasu

Hi Vasu:
The Art of Java assumes that the reader already knows the basics of Java. It shows how to apply Java to a wide range of applications. (See the other posts about the title for a more detailed explanation.) And, the book definitely does approach programming from the creative side.
As to your other point, about programming being an art. I agree. I believe that the best programmers combine both the science of computing with the art of its expression. Frankly, great programs are not achieved simply because they are sound from a software engineering point of view (although engineering soundness is, of course, necessary). Rather, great programs are created because of the artistic vision of the programmer.
Thus, great programs are artistic expressions in logic.
