Hi,
could anyone tell me of a quick and dirty test to identify what will cause a compile time error and what will cause a run time error. Should i be thinking that anything to do with bad syntax means compile error and anything dynamic run time?
with respect,
thomas!

Hi Tom,
Welcome to JavaRanch!
Well, yes, I suppose. Provably invalid programs give compiler errors. Programs which try to do invalid things at runtime give runtime errors.
The quickest test to see whether a program will give compile-time errors would be to compile it!
