JRE and XP

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I have a quick question. I have finally upgraded (downgraded? debased myself? )to XP and I notice it likes to toss Sun's JRE to the wayside in favor of Micro$oft's virtual machine. Is there a way to override it? It also seems to have scrapped my SDK references as well...

Thanks!

Easy to solve. Simply go to the windows\system32 directory and rename all files that start with java and end with .exe to .old extentions. For example java.exe to java.exe.old and javaw.exe to javaw.exe.old. This will solve the problem. Remember though you need to put your new JRE hom into your PATH. If you have any more questions let me know.

I'll try that and let you know how it works out...

It's a simple question of preferred order of directories in your path.
Nothing evil or sinister on the part of Microsoft, would happen on any OS if you had several programs with the same name installed each of which is in the path environment.
