Let's all offer a warm welcome to Max Habibi, author of the new APress book "Java Regular Expressions," which we're promoting this week. This book received 9 horseshoes in its JavaRanch review, so you know it's a real gem. Max will be around all week to answer your questions about his book, about regex, and maybe (if you ask nice) even about martial arts...
Of course, he's always around to answer your questions, as he's a bartender in this forum! But let's all act surprised to see him anyway. Look, here he comes!

Yes, it's a bit awkward when your roommates try to whisper, and you try to pretend you can't hear them

Welcome Mr. Habibi!
Martial arts *and* regular expressions? That's funny--just the other day I was wondering how many spinning back-kicks one must administer to a greedy quantifier to make it reluctant.

Well, you'd have to have the spinning back kick towards the end of your pattern, thus giving your Jab the earliest opportunity to score, as it were

It's a funny thing though, because I do have several martial arts metaphors in the book. It's just a familiar analogy
