Is there some trick I'm missing to have jave delete windows shortcuts. I've written an installer for my program and I am working an an uninstaller for same, but when it comes to deleting windows shortcuts using File.delete() it never deletes the shortcut. The return value from delete() indicates that it has not been deleted. Does anyone know why this doesn't work and possibly how to make it work?

Out of curiousity, have you looked at the command prompt to verify if the file is gone or not? I remember from back in my MFC days that at least back then you had to send a "refresh screen" command to make them disappear. i don't know if the same holds true still or not.

yes, I have checked the file system and the file is still there.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
