Lucid Dreaming
I learned what it was much later after I started dreaming lucidly... more than 10 years ago at least.
They call lucid dreaming, "dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming."
Has anybody here experienced that wonderful world?
I am ready to tell if you are.
Hmmm... even if you are not because last night I had the ultimate one (so far!) and I can tell about it... it's PG-13 at most...
But they are amazing because when you touch things for example they feel AS MUCH as the physical thing. Except that you know you are dreaming. It's better than seen a movie!
And I am NOT crazy!

Up to now in my lucid dreams, that feel so real that I have developed a technique to determine wether I am dreaming or not, I sometimes used to tell the very apparently-real characters in my lucid dreams, which had their own and very well-defined personalities, that they did not exist and that only I did and that they were only chemical reactions of my brain in a dream of mine, which is of course, the truth. Remember that you know that you're dreaming.
These characters never believed me, since they have full-blown personalities of their own.
Anyway we almost always have a good time. Sometimes there's the smart-ass but since I know I am dreaming, I know s/he can't harm me and I may just erase him or her from the dream by a "magic" pass.
Even though, it continues to feel so real... When I see a pretty girl, I try to kiss her and more often than not "they" let me.
Last night I found the way to show these characters that they were just dudes in my dream and that they did not have an existence of their own.
I have always been able to fly like Superman in my dreams, possibly because as a kid I was a devoted Superman comic fan.
Last night, after the usual discussion as to how these dudes and dudettes did not exist except as chemical reactions in my brain (but what chem reactions! Thanks for the Brain, Nature!) suddenly I said "but wait! I can prove it!". It had not occurred to me in previous dreams.
I said "just watch": And I proceeded to fly like Superman in the first Superman movie, to the top of the high building in front of us and back down softly, again just like in the movie.
Everybody was amazed and clapping in disbelief! They had never seen anything not even close to it before.
I told them "you have just seen a physical impossibility, right?" To which they answered "yes by all means! What just happened here?"
I told them that it was because that was my dream and they were just in it. That they didn't exist and that because it was a dream, I had the prerogative of flying.
One girl asked so if it's you dreaming, where are you located in the physical world. At which point I said MIAMI which was wrong, I was in Delray Beach. But who's counting. I hope she doesn't present a claim somewhere in the Cosmic plane, Ha ha!
Anyone for an Association for the Prevention Of Cruelty To Dream Characters?

I have them, not such elaborate as Tony, no full-blown personalities, only sensations. And it doesn't last longer than a minute, probably.
Tony, have you read Castaneda books? He seems talking about similar experience. Of course, I could never figure what is it he's talking about

So please tell me you are awake now. (what is the matrix?)
I had a bunch of dreams, and here is the approximate recipe: Start smoking for several years. (possibly not required, but I haven't tested it against a control group). Quit smoking using Zyban.
There have been several cases (according to the doctor I saw) of people on the treatment having incredibly powerful, real, wonderful etc dreams.
I always considered my dreams fairly strong, but there was an extra degree added with the Zyban. I'd often wake and feel like I was just moving from one reality into another. I didn't have the extended "you're all part of my dream" soap opera, but real otherwise.
It did also remind me of a dream I had years ago where I pinched myself to see if I was asleep and realised I was!

Ever had recursive dreams? You see yourself on the couch dreaming and then you fall asleep in your dream and then see yourself lying on the couch dreaming. It goes on and on. Finally you panic and try to wake up. You wake up from one dream to find yourself in another. Once I asked Don Genaro what these dreams implied. He looked into my eyes as if he was searching for something. Suddenly, he turned himself into a coyote and ran off into the bushes.

With my luck I'd run out of memory and do a core dump or blue screen and end up in a coma

This is just unbelievable coincidence!
An old friend of mine, the one we went to the same school, and then college in Russia(!!!) just sent me his site, check it out:

I guess I am "too real" now  Most of my dreams are long gone, since childhood. The best one I had was very real, and I could fly. I remember I was really scared because I knew I could fly in dreams, but wasn't really sure if this is exactly a dream... Flying was one of the best sensations I've had. Along with two real ones, one of wich was the sensations of a rock musitian on stage when a culminative accord is played and crowd becomes one with you...

i have had lucid dreams before. it seems to result when what occurs in the dream is impossible or doesnt make sense. i have also sometimes "controlled" what occurs in the dream when i realize i am dreaming.

Well, no one asked what my technique in lucid dreams (which feel so real!) was for me to make sure I was dreaming so that I wouldn't be arrested but I'm going to say it anyway. It may work for you!
In the dream, before I do something that could get me into trouble, I, outside of the view of the others, extend my arms straight out and then will myself to levitate about half a foot from the ground. If I can, then I'm in a dream since that's a physical impossibility. Then I proceed to have my way...

I have had a handful of lucid dreams, that I can remember anyway. It was an interesting sensation, to suddenly become "aware" that hey, I'm really asleep right now and this is a dream. It's an incredibly liberating feeling...of almost god-like ability.
But I have usually woken up right after that realization. A couple of times I decided in my "dream" to do something really drastic that I normally wouldn't do in "real life" because I knew I was dreaming...like kill someone for no reason, or jump off a building and know I wouldn't be hurt. But as soon as I tried to change the "paramaters" of what the current dream was about, I woke up.
But it's a fascinating phenomenon.

So Tony - I don't suppose anyone has ever caught you attempting to perform this test in the real world? That could lead to some interesting conversations:
Observer: "Hey Tony - what're you up to?"
Tony: "Trying to levitate. Unfortunately, it turns out you're real."

Ha ha Jim!
I was going to say something like that!
I have *never* had to perform that test in the middle of a grocery store or anywhere else! While awake that is!

yup. I fly, walk through walls, cleanse the world of evil, and often know in my dreams that I am dreaming.

My problem is that I know when I'm dreaming but I'm never sure when I'm awake!

Next time you're not sure, Tom, just try to levitate Tony. Let us know if it works.

All these talk on lucid dreaming is so cool.
Times when I knew I was dreaming, I decided to fry up trees by emitting electric current from my first finger and it works. Though the frying process appear to be a bit slow in my dreams.
There are also times when I was so confused in a dream where I was in a health centre that I decided to dissolve everything and later on I couldn't remember what happens next.

Talking about dreams again. There are times when I was plagued by scary ghosts dreams. Then I read in a kung fu comics that a kung fu master can actually emit intense light from his body and thus blinding his opponent.
Then when I was dreaming about scary ghost again, I cross my fists in front of my chest and concentrate on emitting the kind of light from my eyes and body as intense as burning magnesium, all the ghost disappeared and I couldn't remember what happen next.
If some kids tell me that they have scary dreams, I might decide to explain this kind of light kung fu to him.
