I am trying to get a lat long from a GPS unit. I have enough code working to get it once but then I am getting a null pointer exception for the com port listener. Does anyone have a simple example of GPS connectivity they would share with me. I am on a horrendusly short time schedule.
Thanks in advance...

I don't know much about GPS using Java... But once I bookmarked a GPS open source tool at SourceForge.. Hope it might be useful for you... Here it is...

I would start with troubleshooting the serial connectivity. I'd find out the baud rate, start/stop bits and parity configuarion used by your GPS unit. Then I'd check if the program is using the same set of configurations, and uses the correct serial port. If it did, I'd use the Hyperterminal to connect to the GPS unit, and see if the unit is actually sending the data.

Get through this checklist first.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
