I was listening to "Morning Edition" (A morning news and commentary program on National Public Radio) this morning on the drive to work, when the commentator mentioned that support for the program came from the Geraldine Dodge Foundation...sponsor of the Dodge Poetry Program.
Now, this is a serious educational program, as befits a serious program like "Morning Edition". However, the words "Dodge Poetry" put in mind something completely different... Imagine something that's a cross between a "Poetry Slam" and the game of "Dodge Ball" that so many of us played as school children. It brings a whole new meaning to audience participation -- imagine two teams of poets standing on opposite ends of a gymnasium, trying to recite their angst-ridden free verse while simultaneously being pelted by big round rubber balls thrown from the other team...

I was thinking more of two teams hurling books of poetry at each other.
