Herb,

Just wanted to briefly comment.

I've used copies of your "C - A Complete Reference" as reference material for students in C classes that I've taught in the past. The students found the text useful after the class and I found it to be a good tool for use in conducting the classes.

I find your writing style clear, straightforward, and accurate. I'm glad to see that you are continuing to write to provide tools for those coming up in this industry.

Now that I've seen this post I'll remember to get a copy of this, your latest Java book, in case I am asked to teach a Java course in the coming months.

FWIW, I own a couple of Herb Schildt's books (one on C that must be close to 10 years old and one on Java 2). They are both excellent reads and cover items in sufficient detail without adding a bunch of stuffing to pad the page count.

Strongly recomended!

Hi Herb,

Ur book is really awesome(Java 2 Fifth Edition)

I request you to go in detail regarding java.beans and java.lang.reflect as these 2 packages are really very important. I have also searched a lot in the net regarding the material and code snippets but i cld find none.

So i request u to write an article about reflection and Introspection and post it in ur website.

I also request u to add a section called "code base" in your website and keep it updated with sample codes as tht would help us a lot.

For freshers to learn java , the best way i thnk is to go thru the examples.

The problem tht i am facing when learning some of the advanced topics is tht i am not able to find the suitable examples , so i kindly suggest u to create a section in ur website and keep updating it with some sample codes.

One more question is tht can we(java programmers) be able to meet u virtually ie can we meet u through any messenger if we hve any doubts. I thnk this is very much required as we get some doubts while going thru and there wont be anyone helping us.

Please post a reply to my message.
finally i guess tht after u read my message u will seriously thnk about maintaining such a section in ur website.

The next question tht i am posting is for all the experienced programmers.
Can we start a conference(similar to conference in Yahoo messenger) opened to Javaranch members , where we discuss on the upcoming new features in java atleast on a weekly basis. The topics to be discussed can be choosen in advance by some of the experienced programmers.

Good Luck,
Ajay Bhargov

Hi Herb,
Congratulation for keeping the quality of your books so great.
I have some questions.
How do you deal with concurrency in your book ?
Do you focus in the old Threads class or in the new Concurrent API ?
I didnt study it yet. Do you think that this api really simplifies the use of threads or it sould be used only in complex situations ?
Regards,

Ajay:

You will be happy to know that I have updated coverage of Beans and expanded coverage of reflection in Java: The Complete Reference, J2SE 5 Editon. Also, thanks for your other suggestions!

Vinicius:

Thanks for your kind words! As to your questions: Java; The Complete Reference, J2SE 5 Edition provides extensive coverage of both Thread and the new Concurrency API. In fact, both have their own chapters. Chapter 11 coverages traditional-style threading and Chapter 26 covers the new Concurrency API.

You ask whether the Concurrency API simplifies threading. The answer is No. Threading is already simple in Java. What the Currenency API adds is flexibility and power. Most simple threading situations won't need it, but when you do need it, the power is now available.

Dear Sir,
Its great to have you here.
I am your self confessed fan,
I must state i was struggling with learning java,
and then i turned to your book

Java 2: The Complete Reference (fifth edition)

it makes the most esoteric concepts seem simple,

i think your book is the best guide for learning Java

You have been a "LightHouse" to many guys
who have sailed in the deep seas of programming languages
for over a decade.
May you write books galore and help people learn
Wishing you success in your future endeavors
