difference between rmi and java sockets  RSS feed

could someone please let me know that what are the difference between java RMI and java sockets? I know it acheives the same goals of the client/server communication and with rmi you can invoke methodes of the remote object. but which one is better and why?
could some one tell me the advantage and disadvantages of both.

Why dont you read the tutorials ? It would be a lot more beneficial to you in the long run.

Rmi provides a layer of abstraction over socket programming - hides the details of Sockets, Streams and Data Marshalling.

Sun's tutorial section gives you a great start on both technologies.
