Hi All,

Is there an equivalent in java to running a program as a kind of 'service'.

I'm thinking about a situation where I would need a program running indefinately, checking records in tables for certain conditions and then perfoming actions.

If I was doing this in VB, i'd have created a service so it sits in the background doing its thing, but as far as java is concerned i'm not know what approach one would take.

Thanks,

Dave.

It's pretty simple to write an endless program if that's what you mean. If you're interested in making something that runs in the background and doesn't use a console window, I like to use the JDIC libraries to create a program that sits in the system tray. You can also just run a program with no console but then it's harder to shut it down or monitor it.
