Hi,

recently I upgraded our users to java 1.5 runtime so that I could take advantage of some fixed bugs in the JTextEditor class.

However, after a little while (days, week or so) we all noticed that the Java application would sometimes just disappear from the OS (we are using Windows). Without warning it seems that the JVM just dies. There is no trace of anything suspicious in our application logging.

Sometimes an error log would just appear on the desktop of some machines. I won't provide all the details, but it starts with:

So I moved everyone back to java 1.4 runtime and the problem has never resurfaced.

Just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this or any advice to offer.

I thought I would be proactive and stay current with the latest Java runtime, but I got burned this time and am hesitent to give 1.5 a go in the near future.

Cheers, Jared.

you should probably file a bug report at http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/

Not a performance problem, anyway - moving to Java in General (intermediate)...
