Hi,

First I dont know whether its the right place to post this question. The question is related to users logging into a web application. I was suggesting setting up a login module/userid and password[standard approach]. But my clients want an autologin.

That means, they want to type their id to the OS window[when they do ctrl/alt/del] login when they login to the system. Then my web app should read the user id from windows login/make sure its a valid user[whether uid is in the database] and display the welcome screen for them.

My app is J2ee/websphere based...

What should I say ? I already mentioned it will be a security constraint. But needs a bit more good explainations, so thought of posting in Ranch..

Thanks,
RK

Reading the local username in the Client...

Hmmm, maybe there is a way to do it in JavaScript, but that is definitely not my area of expertise.

Flow would be a bit like

- Webapp indexpage gets loaded
- Javascript on indexpage determines username (however it will do that)
- Setting some vars in a form and sending it back via
document.formicula.submit()
- Settings get processed on the server and either show the
welcomepage or the getlostpage

I think you might get this thing running on one or the other browser,
but a general solution - phew
