Hello,

I would like to know it is possible to install jdk 1.5 on a windows XP machine already countaining jdk 1.4.2.

I need both versions. I want to switch between them with Eclipse build in features or by selecting the whole path to the bin folder of the target version in batch scripts.

Is this possible or does dll or registry stuff collide?

Tanks in advance.

I should think you can install both versions; I have had J1.4 and J1.5 both at the same time.
It is quite easy to change version in Eclipse, because whenever you set up a new project, you get a dialogue box asking you which version you wish to use. It says "Create a Java Project", and about half way down there are two radio buttons marked JDK compliance, configure JDK, use default JDK, and use a project specific compliance. Only it hasnt' got all my spelling mistakes on.

I think that will sort out your problem.

I think you would have to use the same version for the whole project, however.

Installing a JDK will make registry changes. Installing a JRE will also change the java.exe and javaw.exe files in the Windows folder. If you have tailored the registry for java files: ie .class, .jar or .java, be sure to export those entries before the installation or they will be replaced.
