Dave is finally going to put up a site (again). Got a provider, got the content, need a name...
If you have an idea for a domain name let me have it here. This is for a personal/slightly business oriented site so there are a couple of ground rules:
I'm not looking for a strictly business type of name, nor do I want something like 'DavesWebSite.com'
I am leaning towards something humorous, if the name lends itself to a theme so much the better.
Nothing mean, slanderous, or otherwise degrading to anyone!!
don't worry about checking to see if the names are available - I'll do that for the ones I like...
Whoever suggests the name I use I'll give them credit and a link too (I know, 'oh joy!!')
Thanks everyone, and have fun with it...

Rolling the dice Dave. No telling what you will get. I remember the band name request.
Hope the dice don't end up snake eyes.

Your right, but no matter how bad or stupid they get I don't have to actually use them Of course, if anyone does post a good one, I'll have to act fast before someone else takes it

Does it contain something like this. Or something a little less meaningful.

Good point Map
It'll be mainly just a site where I can post some of the things I've done (some servlets and JSPs), study guides, class notes, things like that. Maybe my resume. Nothing too serious but, on the other hand, more professional than the usual, 'these are the pictures of my last vacation site'. Does that help?
As an example, a friend of mine had a site 'woodenbadger.com' I like that name. It isn't too serious but also it isn't too unprofessional either.
Does that make any sense?

Daverage (Dave+average. I'm sure we can find a better second word starting with 'ave')
In the spirit of eDave, how about damezon?
Personally I'd probably take 'davewashere'

Hmmm, OK, maybe not anything with my name. Just so you all know where my thoughts are leaning I like the 'donteatyellowsnow' (might be a bit long) and the 'anicedomain' suggestions. that is the direction I'm leaning as opposed to a strictly business sounding name.
Thanks and keep them coming, I'm probably going to do it on Friday.

OK let's approach this from a slightly different angle.
David has a few meanings - Beloved, Darling and Hero.
so maybe something along one of those lines, or go with the story of your most famous namesake, and use Goliath, slingshot or something like that.
I think there should be some personal element (even an obscure one) if the site is essetially about you and your work.

Too many words and too easy to misspell Eric, but thanks and keep them coming. I want to keep it relatively simple, so that people can figure out what to type in with-out having it spelled out for them (literally).
But thanks and keep them coming.....

Ok, Dave's not feeling very creative so what does anyone think of these?
balancedInsight.com
quietInitiative.com
balancedInitiative.com
Or, something along those lines.
I was stumped for a humorous one that I liked, I was leaning towards Jason' angryduck (or something similar) but wanted a different animal and couldn't think of one Wanted something that I could make a decent image of and have it on my pages and not with a poor connotation - so no angryturtle or angrysloth.com. If anyone has any ideas along those lines let me know. Doesn't have to be the word angry either.

Ummm... boring, IMO. Of course it's not my website, but as long as you asked...
I was leaning towards Jason' angryduck (or something similar)
This sounds more promising. There are all sorts of funky adjective/animal combinations. Some possible directions:
angryherring
enragedplatypus
lonesomeaardvark
petulantoppossum
feistygoldfish

Okay this helps a bit. The fact that you want to also create an image of this animal is important imho. So it looks like we're heading down the adjective-animal route.
It might help if you can pick an easily identifiable animal that lends itself well to being drawn, and perhaps has some humorous characteristics since you seem to want to head in that direction. Ducks, cats, and dogs quickly come to mind as being easily characitured. Of course there are many others, but you might want to stay away from a site called angrybeaver, for example.
So now you need an adjective. You want an adjective that lends itself well to the image you want to create, and possibly one that might help in the humor department. I think emotions might be good in this regard as they of course lend character to your image. As an illustration using the aforementioned angry duck, I'm sure you could quickly come up with an idea for a cartoonish angry duck, and the humourous qualities such an image could conjure.

Yes, maybe I should have said that earlier, although I dont think I had it quite narrowed down into those terms. But definately an adjective - noun combination.
borealQuiescence.com Sounds neat - if I knew what it was I'd think about it, on the toher hand no-one would ever get to my site because they'd never know how to spell it.

Do you really want folks first impression of you to be that you are "angry"
I would think that you would want an adjective that you leave them with a warm and fuzzy feeling about you.
How about
FriendlyFerret.com
EducatedEagle.com
HappyHound.com
WickedWizard.com
or I kinda like:

OK, we're on track now. Good ideas Cindy! Now I need an animal (or other noun): something a little unusual not a dog or a cat (but relatively easy to spell), and it doesn't neccesarily have to be cute. I was leaning towards something with penguins but then you get the whole Linux connotation, maybe a dragon? Gecko? Wombat?
Any more...?
Some other adjectives...?

A few that quickly come to mind:
newt
yak
woodchuck
beaver
Or you could simply go to www.oreilly.com and check out the colophon link that is on some of the book pages and see if you find anything interesting (see example).
Additionally you could choose a breed of animal, such as chihuahua or something.

chihuahua is a little hard to spell

Somehow all of those sound like names for "adult" sites.
