This is mysterious. Has this ever happened to you? You go to pee, say, four times a day, and everytime this same other guy is there/ walks in/ walks out when you enter the washroom.
Infact I was synching so often with this other guy, that we actually say hi to each other now. A couple other synchs didn't go too well - we looked at each other with distrust and suspicion.
Do you think some aliens are controlling our pee cycles?

Well, I do not really have any statistics to either support or disprove your observations, but if to follow the spirit of your post...
Here are some ailuromantic observations
Today my husband and his cat were racing each other up- and downstairs. Carefully conducted experimenst shown that the cat was a clear winner running upstairs, while my husband always beat her running downstairs. Has something to do with two paws- vs. four paws equilibrium problem.

That, or you're being stalked.
Has something to do with two paws- vs. four paws equilibrium problem.
Or it has something to do with the square-cube law The cat has a higher strength/weight ratio, so when going against gravity, the cat has an advantage; when going with gravity, your husband has the advantage.

Jim, your extensive physical education can mislead you into wrong conclusions here, I am afraid. Perhaps you are right, but I think you ignore other, non-physical considerations, such as biological and psychological. From what I observed, the cat is far less confident running downstairs than upstairs. And no wonder. Have you ever tried to climb the stairs on all fours? I tried, and while I was able the make my way up, I quickly gave up any attempts to move in the opposite direction. Essentially, when you use all four paws moving downstairs, you have your head below your legs, which is very unnatural and can be subjectively perceived as dangerous. I think, this is precisely what slows down the cat. Conversely, people are able to always keep upright posture, whether running up -or downstairs.
Hm... To have a fair experiment, we need make "husbands vs. bears" comparison, not "husbands vs. cats".

Good points - you may well be right. One other consideration is that going downstairs on all fours, most weight is on the front appendages than the rear. This is probably more of a problem for humans than cats, since we don't normally travel on all fours, and thus our arm muscles are less developed than our legs. Thus you may quite reasonably be uncomfortable going downstairs, for reasons which don't really apply to the cat.
Try running your cat and husband on an inclined plane, rather than a staircase. If the slope is gentler than a typical staircase, the balance issue may go away quicker than the square-cube effect. This could increase our onderstanding.
you ignore other, non-physical considerations, such as biological and psychological.
What you call biological considerations are also physical, relating as they do to physical body structure and dynamics. I suspect that psychological considerations here are derived from physical realities as well, as the cat knows (whether consciously or instinctively) what it can do well, and what it can't.
Hm... To have a fair experiment, we need make "husbands vs. bears" comparison, not "husbands vs. cats".
Might be hard to repeat the experiment though. Oh perhaps that's the idea?

From complemetary pee cycles to the relative physics of quadrupeds vs bipeds on a trip up and down the stairs....
I have to say this conversation has taken a very drastic shift in focus, even for an MD thread!

Hey, do not try to hijack this thread!
It is about strange observations, not about what this thread is about!

I would never think of highjacking this thread, I was merely making a strange observation about what the thread was about!
Please continue, following this type of conversation is why I enjoy frequenting this forum so much!!

I was just pleased to see the gist of the conversation go away from partner-peeing to kitty cats!!! And even bears!!

Trough urinals present another potential dilemma. Every once in a while you see that same guy peeing, and for some reason he stands a little too close, and in trying to move off a little you end up crossing streams.
That's a delicate moment indeed.
