Does the book "Java Programming cookbook" cover the latest
java

Any additions on Web 2.0 etc?

Yes.
The code was tested with Java 6, but in general, it also works with Java 5, and much of it works with 1.4.
Since its about the Java language, it doesn't have anything specific to Web 2.0.
