Michael Morris is a longer name than Randall Twede, but his name is one line and mine is two, why?

your resolution might be higher than mine..mine is 800X600, if not, its even stranger that it is two lines on mine.

Is "Michael Morris" really longer than "Randall Twede"? Not necessarily, if the font isn't monospace. In fact they look pretty much identical in length on my monitor. And as I experiment with resizing the browser, both names seem to make the jump from one line to two lines at exactly the same point. Perhaps you were looking at a page that had been distored by an overlong line?

jim,
im talking about the way it is displayed when i am viewing the forum topics (not a particular topic). it is only this forum because in other forums my name is on one line. the ubb type looks proportional to me but his name is still longer.

Oh, that. Those are displayed in Verdana, but not in bold. Under those conditions the names look like:
Michael Morris
Randall Twede

Looks to me like the latter is a bit longer (even if it has one less letter) - which is why it may need a line break before the former does. For comparison, here's the same, but in bold (the way they're displayed in the topic page):
Michael Morris
Randall Twede

On my browser at least, these look nearly identical. Interesting that using boldface is enough to make a chage in size.

oh yeah! bold makes a big difference in size. i guess it is just the browser im using or my screen resolution, but on my monitor, his name is one line and mine is two.
