how to compare a Date and a Calendar date ?

I have a java.util.Date variable and a Calendar.getInstance(), how do I compare them ??

Calendendar has a method getTime() that returns a Date object. Use it and compare them.
 
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
