I was just wondering(for no good reason whatsoever), how many developers are also martial artists? I would include boxing and wrestling as martial arts.

Eugene,
I'm having trouble finding a worthy chess opponent, try http://www.freechess.org/ and download winboard (free) to use on the free chess server. My handle is "Xman".

I was recently helping someone who was very dogmatic about such and such in software design. When he told me he was from a dogmatic martial arts school, bells went off. I wonder if there are personality traits that guide us to seek the same patterns in our lives: for example, an hypermodern chess stylist might also find themselves practicing Jeet Kune Do and/or code using an XP/Agile methodology.
A Roy Lopez chess player, OTOH, might prefer Shotokan Karate, and prefer a waterfall model of development.
Probably nonesense all around anyway.

So do you play the King's Indian defense in chess? That would consistant, I think.

herb: I'm having trouble finding a worthy chess opponent, try http://www.freechess.org/ and download winboard (free) to use on the free
I also use freechess.org as the chess server and winboard as an interface. Isn't this interesting, -- two fellow libertarians, both Java programmers, both MD active, and even the chess ratings are almost the same:

You talkin' to me, Arnold? Nah, I prefer non-conventional openings, something like b2-b4.

The odds of chess ratings being so closely correlated in all those categories is phenonmenal, never mind the fact that we use the same chess server amongst servera available; that we use the same software amongst several available; and that we play non-convential openings more than average.
Like I've always been saying, we're psychic blood brothers

I'm a poker player. I play check-and-raise quite a bit, if that makes any sense.

I used to do Wing Tsun kung-fu a few years ago, but left because the sifu annoyed the tits off everyone. Shame as I really liked it - "Be like water!"
Took up Tai-chi afterwards (a short form and a sabre sword form) but gave up when I came to Korea last year.
I couldn't fight my way out of a paper bag mind...and I never think about martial arts when I'm working. Or chess for that matter.

I used to play Judo a lot, but now I mostly stick to playing music (which is not usually a very martial art).
